STEVE
LIEBERMAN: THE GANGSTA RABBI & HIS BAD'LAN PROG-PUNK MOVEMENT
One-man
BASS Revolutionary, eccentric FLUTIST and exotic MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST,
STEVE LIEBERMAN (a.k.a. Gangsta Rabbi) performs
and creates what has been called the most original brand of music
on this side of the Diaspora, fusing punk, industrial, progressive
rock, world/folk with Hebrew-American influence. To further add
to the craziness, he does this all with no guitars or keyboards!
All the chords and leads are performed on his now trademark 4-fold
overdriven Bass supplemented by a huge array of Transverse Flutes,
Happy Flutes, Exotics as the Shahnai, Bombard, Dvoyanka, Chanter,
Snake Charmer, Spike Fiddle, Clarinet, Trombone amongst others!!
August
27, 2002 saw the release of Steve Lieberman's first full-length
CD, Bad'lania
Rising, a 21-song propulsive mixture of the secular and
the holy. While the anchor song, Big Carburetor 29 made
a great showing on the internet charts, the surprise hit was Gangsta
Rabbi, the story of Steve Lieberman's religious isolation
from the Hebrew masses which actually spent 8 consecutive days at
#1 on MP3.com's Jewish/Israeli and Mideastern/North African charts,
while he had also topped the charts in hardcore punk, industrial,
alt. country, mod, garage and alt hip-hop. Whew!! Who would have
thunk it???
While
the buzz (and mixed reviews) for Bad'lania Rising was still
happening, Lieberman went back into his Spring-Green Bad'lan Studio
on 12/13/2002 to put down tracks on his next full-length cd to be
called
Jewish Lightning. As an expression of gratefulness for
the Hebrews in the Diaspora who supported Bad'lania Rising,
Jewish Lightning promises to be politically and religiously
controversial, deeply exploring anti-racism, the Holocaust and the
Biblical themes touched on in Bad'lania. The anchor song
Astroland
Spring-Green '415 hit #2 for an incredible 9 days on MP3.com's
Garage Punk Charts!!! Can't wait to see what the critics will say
about this one!!!!
